the centrally composed subject works for me as the hands and knife are the key subjects (to me).
It's nice to see a piece of art in the process of being created as opposed to just showing the final product.
That knife tip is an "arrow" waiting to happen and directs the eye to look at the tip. Since this is already mostly a centered composition, I consider going with the knife tip (or the f lower design it points to) being placed dead center in the frame.
Thanks for the suggestion about placement. I tried it and I like it too. I'll have to mull over which I like better.
This image has a nice feel to it. The dark background and the black in the work are harmonious. There's a good mood and the activity is well isolated.
There is a bit of bright something over his left thumb (top centre); you might clone that out; it is amazingly distracting.
Great choice for this theme. Love how the image is tighly focussed on the loom, while still showing all forms of the thread (a gorgeous, eye-pleasing blue) in its various stages. Lovely
Beautifully simple, and the fuzzy and fine texture of the yarns shows well. Simple but illustrative.
Really like the intense concentration this artist is devoting to his creation -- you've captured that so nicely by zeroing in on the key elements of the scene, with no unnecessary background distraction. .
Thank you
You have really captured the concentration and skill.
Sometimes a challenge in situations like this, but less depth of field to blur the background would have removed just a bit of distracting clutter in the top left.
Some fun with selective desaturation. The mask to the side at first looks like there might be a second person beside her (especially with what looks like a body shape behind the mask) -- so the little surprise moment when you realize she's holding the mask. The image feels "fun" as we get the impression she is making the mask at some kind of craft activity.
I like the idea of the selective desaturation to make the mask stand out, but I'm less enamoured with the toning on the lady's face. since we have colour on the mask and the rest seems to be black and white, the toning on her face does not fit with the type of image I would expect. With the pale yellowish tinting it almost makes her look ill.
Lovely expression on her face, a definite contrast to the mask-like thing.
I see no reason to colour her skin a kind of yellow green?
A compelling image, with the viewer's eye of course drawn initially to the central flame. Then the visual range expands, working the eye in a cpmplete circle around the artisan, encompassing both the tools of his craft and a sample of the final creations. The overall gentle lighting and cool pale blue background work well with the intensity of the flame. A favourite.
Great light, lovely glass objects, cool flame (and reflection) and a relaxed look on the artist. A total story in one frame, and a strong image at that.
Nothing - one of my votes.
I think the story is not just in the artist, but also that people are just walking right past.
I think there are several stories here, but for the arts and crafts, I would have liked to have seen a closer view of the artist and his creation, by moving in a little and perhaps changing the angle. Still, it's a very candid moment and works well with the background.

This is an interesting display, and the rich colours work beautifully with the white.
