    Strengths:

Great character portrait, good technical execution showing texture in shirt collar and whiskers

    Suggestions:

Inevitably, with this type of light, you're going to lose details in the darkest and lightest areas. One option, if you're working with a cooperative sitter, is to have them hold a reflective surface at waist level parallel to the ground to bounce light up into the face; even a sheet of paper can make a difference for the camera sensor.

The Natural light really shows up the detail and texture in the beard and clothing. Very nice image.

I love how this is in black and white. Great capture of the shadows on his face.

    Strengths:

A very strong and intimate portrait.  A strong expression, and great eye contact with the camera.  The light brings out the details of his beard and the texture of his hat.  The shadows on the had add interest, and the shadows on the face add depth and a bit of mystery.

    Suggestions:

Even through they are in shadow it might be interesting to add a touch of clarity to make the pop just a touch.  it is eye contact that makes a portrait really work.
