Upcoming Club Activities

  1. Competition

The 2019 Crescent Beach Photography Club Invitational Black and White Print Competition takes place on Saturday, April 27th. Printing is part of the photography experience.  This competition is an excellent way to participate in the full spectrum - the vision, the creation of the digital photogrqph in camera, the post production to finalize the digital file, and the printing.

Member submissions for this competition closed on Mar 23, 2019.

  2. Outing

Mark your calendars for an early morning trek to the tulip festival in Chilliwack.

Let's assemble at the main gate for 9am when the gates open. For anyone who wants to get some earlier shots without the crowds,  you can purchase a sunrise admission ticket.

Google Maps says it takes an hour to get out to the festival. Drivers should be on the road no later than 8am so we can meet at the gate for 9am. (Of course if you want earlier shots, please plan accordingly).

What started out as a family passion, soon "bloomed" into a wonderful partnership with Onos Greenhouses Ltd., who own and grow the tulips on the 20-acre field.  This yields a bounty of bulbs, and at the end of the blooming season, after many guests have enjoyed their vibrant display, Onos Greenhouses collects the bulbs and then uses them in their greenhouse operation, to produce cut Tulips that are sold throughout western Canada and the Northern States.  Tulips of the Valley is Western Canada’s largest and most recognized Tulip Festival!

Located at 41310 Yale Road in Chilliwack.

Admission  Prices:     Adults 15.00 at gate 10.00 online     Seniors 10.00 at gate 7.00 online

Sunrise Tickets (open as early as 6am):     Adults 30.00 at gate 20.00 online

**Purchasing sunrise tickets online need to be purchased no later than 10pm the evening before**

    Directions by car:
STEP 1: Follow the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) East. Once you pass Abbotsford, take Exit 109 (Yale Road West).
STEP 2: After the exit, you will turn right onto Yale Road.
STEP 3: Then turn right once you reach Royalwood Avenue.

The entrance to the festival fields will be at the corner of Yale Road and Royalwood Avenue.

Transit Users:  Sorry, but there aren’t any convenient transit options available for such an early outing. This is where arrangements should be made amongst the photo club members to carpool out to the venue.  My car fills up fast, so please don’t wait until the last minute to find transportation.  If anyone who is attending has some extra seats, it would be great to offer them up and make arrangements with someone who needs a seat.  With such an early start, it is recommended to be on the road by no later than 8am.  Of course, if anyone wants to do the sunrise opening, they need to be on the road earlier since it takes around an hour to get to the venue.

  7. Outing

We will travel back in time when interurban trains ran through the Fraser Valley from New Westminster to Chilliwack.  Let's assemble at the Cloverdale Station for 10am to tour the facility and ride the interurban train.  The BCER 1225 train tour leaves at 1115am.  This will give us time to purchase our tickets first thing when we arrive and have some time to walk the car barn.  The train tour takes 55 minutes round trip.  We can also make a stop for lunch and then walk downtown Cloverdale once we are done if the group wants.

In 2001 the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society (FVHRS) was formed to acquire, restore and operate the remaining BC Electric Railway Interurban cars. The original Fraser Valley rail line still exists in the valley from New Westminster as far East as Chilliwack. Some adjustments to the tracks have been made in the past 50 years, but most of the original track is still there. The Fraser Valley interurban line last carried passengers in 1955, a special trip from Chilliwack for Miss J. E. Fowlie and her grade 3 class from Yarrow. The original BCER Fraser Valley line remains a forgotten jewel in the valley.
