    Sharon has a body of work that spans from sharp and crisp black and white photography to colourful hand painted multi-media images.  She teaches photography workshops around the world as well as courses at Langara College in Vancouver, BC.

  4. Outing

    We will make a morning stop at the George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary. Please assemble in the parking lot at 0830am.

    We can take some early shots before it opens and then walk the grounds for 1.5-2 hours. We can then make a stop at the nearby Angel Estate Winery for a snack and wine samples, find a local restaurant in Delta or Ladner, or head over to the Tsawwassen Mills mall for lunch. 


    Details:

    Come prepared for the weather.  Dress appropriate for walking outdoors on gravel and grassy trails. 

    The George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary is one of 92 Federal Migratory Sanctuaries in Canada. The sanctuary consists of 300 hectares (850 acres) of managed wetlands, natural marshes, and low dykes in the heart of the Fraser River Estuary.

    Transit Users: Sorry, but there aren't any convenient transit options to this venue.  Arrangements should be made amongst other photo club members to carpool out to the venue. My car fills up fast, so please do not wait until the last minute to find transportation. 

  5. Meeting

    A hands on workshop to practice table top still-life and lighting, well in time to make images you can use for Christmas cards, or other holiday festivities!

      Have you ever received a handmade Christmas card and taken a moment to appreciate the time and thought that went into making it? Here is your chance to make images you can use to make Christmas cards, or other festive crafts for others to appreciate that same way!

      We will set up stations and bring  holiday-themed props, lights and other odds and ends for creating festive still-life vingettes for you to photograph.

      Volunteers will be on hand to assist with ideas, lighting technical questions etc.

      If you have props, decorations, backgrounds or lights that would be helpful, please do bring them. 

      If you don't wish to shoot Christmas themed items, but still want to practice still-life photography, please bring items you would like to photograph — perhaps other seasonal props of interest to you?

  6. Competition
    In-House Digital Black and White (Internal)Submissions due: Nov 24, 2018

    Competition date: Nov 27, 2018

    Join and participate in our in-house digital black and white photography competition.   Some of the technical aspects of a black and white photograph with impact include:

    • Contracts grabs attention. Make your adjustments to your colours before you change to black and white.
    • Look for the lines, shadows and shapes/textures in your composition.
    • Flat light can create a dreamy tonal range.
    • The use of black makes your whites look brighter.
    • Graphic elements in your composition like leading lines etc can be eye grabbers in black and white.
    • When adjusting your photograph try to achieve some true white and true black.

    Judging and moderated commentary from the judges as well as Club members on your submitted images. This is a great opportunity to receive feedback on your work within the comfort of the club meeting.

  10. Outing

    We will attend the Glow Christmas Festival at the Milner Village Garden Centre.  We can assemble outside the main entrance at 6pm. Ordering tickets online is recommended because it most likely will sell out ahead of time. A very limited amount of tickets might be available at the door. No guarantees.

    Located at the Milner Village Garden Centre at 6690 216st in Langley, BC.  It is a short 5 minute drive from the 232nd street exit from Highway #1.

    Transit Users: Board an Eastbound train to Production Way University Station by no later than 430pm and get off at Loughees Town Centre Station and board the "555 Carvolth Exchange" bus at Bay #8.  Exit Carvolth Exchange and Transfer to the "562 Langley Centee via Fort Langley" bus from Bay #11.  Get off the bus at Glover Road and Crush Crescent and it is a short walk to the Garden Centre.
